A Hoot of a Day.

Tawny Owl - Faceby Woods

Whitethroat - Dormans Pool
Greylags - Cod Beck Reservoir
Small Copper - Dormans Pool
Green Veined White - Dormans Pool
Broad Bodied Chaser - Coatham Stobb
Large Skipper - Coatham Stobb

Small Heath - Coatham Stobb
Common Blue - Coatham Stobb

Went for a walk with David while Sylvia was horseriding. We spotted a Tawny sitting in a tree near the track, at the same time we heard a crack and low and behold a squirrel suddenly started to descend from high above as a branch snapped and it hit the ground with a thud. After a couple of minutes it ran off, it was so funny and unbelievable, watched all the time by the two young owls sitting on the floor nearby.

  1. Enjoyed reading that.
Superb pics, do you use the same gear / lens for the bird images and the insect close ups ?

  2. Funnily enough most of the images on this posting were taken with the big lens Canon 100-400 - those from the chaser down. We had gone out looking for the Barn Owl at Coatham Stobb but didn't manage to see it. We normally use the Canon 100m macro for close up images of the butterflies etc.
