Red-backed Shrike

Called in to South Gare again this afternoon to see if we could re-locate the Red-backed Shrike that we had seen yesterday - took a bit of time but we eventually managed to find it in the area that it had been yesterday. The weather was absolutely foul, but the bird was still managing to feed on bees that it subsequently spiked on thorns. After this we drove up to Scaling Dam in thick fog and managed to locate two Little Stint at distance with several Dunlin. There was also a dead Canada goose outside the hide which I assume was a casualty of bird flu!!!

South Gare migrant fall

The poor weather is not all bad - today we managed to catch up with Red-backed Shrike, Common Redstart, Spotted Flycatcher and Lesser Whitethroat at the blast pools area of South Gare, the weather was very poor, wet and windy, but the birds although distant were good to see.
