Daurian Shrike and Pied Wheatear. Another 2 LIFERS - the shrike was at the lea's at South Shields and the Pied Wheatear was on our doorstep at Redcar seafront. What will turn up next!!
Having failed to locate the Huntcliffe bird we heard of another at Hendon in Sunderland - a quick drive up the A19 and we arrived at the site - but where was the bird - the area was hard to access and a bit dodgy to say the least - but we did manage to get in and WOW the bird showed for a couple of minutes before disappearing. Brilliant bird and a quick record shot in the bag - nice one!!
Today turned up another lifer for us when a Desert Wheatear turned up at Hartlepool Headland, a late afternoon dash found the Desert Wheatear on waste ground near Spion Cop cemetery, failing light didn't spoil the enjoyment of this short stay bird which hadn't been seen in Cleveland for 60 years. While we were watching a Shore Lark and 2 Lapland Bunting graced us with their presence - brilliant.
